1 Healthy Thing to Start Today!

I love my blueberries!!!

Blueberry Plants

I really enjoy feeling healthy!  Yeah I know, most people would say that.  But I reeeeeeally enjoy being and feeling healthy,  I am so thankful to have the skills and knowledge to lead a healthy life and provide healthful choices for my family and friends.

I know that all sounds a little silly.  I mean shouldn’t we all want that and be working towards that?  And why do we need skills and knowledge to do that?  Shouldn’t it be easy to just eat healthy food?

Unfortunately this day and age in our culture you do have to work at eating healthy foods.  The majority of “food” in the grocery stores isn’t healthy and the healthy stuff is often more expensive.  It is absurd that you can buy a box of macaroni and cheese for less than an apple!  That is the definition of crazy, if you ask me!

Through the years I have definitely encountered more than enough diets, eliminations, and deprivations to know that it isn’t all it is cracked up to be.  Now don’t get me wrong, there is a time and a place for removing things from your diet.  Most of the time it can be much much simpler and basic than the latest fads.

Did you know that eating just 1/2 cup of blueberries, or raspberries or blackberries each day can help to fight cancer and lower inflammation?   And the best part is that they can be fresh, frozen, organic or even conventional and they still have all of those benefits!

Check out this link to a super great explanation on just how and why our body loves berries  http://nutritionfacts.org/2014/12/23/boosting-anti-cancer-immunity-with-berries/

In the meantime here is one of our new favorite after school/work treats.  I am not sure you can call this a recipe but here it is!

Perfect Quick Blueberry Bowl!!

1/2 – 1 cup frozen Blue berries

1/2 – 1 cup warmed coconut or almond milk

a pinch of cardamom

1 tsp maple syrup – optional

Warm the milk gently (if it isn’t warm you will end up with a block of berry and milk ice) then pour over your bowl of berries  – add your cardamom and maple syrup if needed.  enjoy!!
